Certificates Issued by the HTW

The Foreign Language Centre is accredited to issue the following language certificates:
  • UNIcert® = nationally accredited language certificate for general and specialised language at various proficiency levels; trouble-free recognition of acquired language knowledge at all German universities; certified examination is integrated in regular class exams; free of charge for HTW students and auditing students.
  • TORFL = Test of Russian as a Foreign Language; internationally accredited; the HTW offers prep courses that run for two terms (free of charge for HTW students and auditing students); after completion, the exam may be sat for at the HTW (subject to a fee for all).
  • DSH = German language university entrance exam for foreign students; the HTW only offers the exam itself; subject to a fee for all.

Preparatory Courses for Internationally Accredited Language Exams

The HTW offers prep courses for the following internationally accredited language examinations in English.
Examinations for these courses(TOEFL and IELTS) are administered by institutions outside the HTW.
  • TOEIC = Test of English for International Communication; course comprises 2 weekly study hours at advanced level 1; intended for students wishing to study abroad in Europe. The HTW International Office recognises the test as fulfilling the language requirement for admission to financial support programmes for study periods spent aboard in Europe.
  • TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language; course runs for 2 credit hours at advanced level 1; for students who would like to study in the U.S., Canada or Japan.
  • IELTS = International English Language Testing System; course runs for 4 credit hours at advanced level 1; for students who would like to study in Australia, the U.K. or Ireland.
