Semester Fee for On-Campus Study
The semester fee for regular on-campus studies consists of various individual fees that sum up to a total amount. The following table gives information on the current semester fee for the summer semester 2013.
-
To re-register for the upcoming term, the semester fee that is applicable in your individual case has to be paid into the HTW account in time.
If it is your first time enrolment, you will receive a payment request together with your initial letter of admission. Please proceed as is described there.
For every semester after that you will NOT receive a separate invitation to re-register for the following semester, instead it is your very own obligation to find out about the payment details at the end of your current semester and make sure that you transfer the applicable semester fee amount into the HTW bank account as specified below within the deadline for re-enrolment as set forth in the academic calendar.
Also, the dates and deadlines of re-enrolment for the up-coming semester are always printed on the backside of your current student ID card for the ongoing semester.

Exemptions and/or Refunds of fees
Exemptions from semester fee
Refunds of parts of the semester fee
Students in their final semester
- There is no exemption for disabled students. They also have to pay the total regular semester fee.
- If you work as an elected member of statutory bodies/administrative organs of the university, the student body, or student services and have voting power, up to two university semesters will be deducted from your total number of university semesters. Proof of such membership must be provided.
- In case you want to be partially or completely exempted from the semester fees for one or more semesters because you have been granted an exeat (as specified in the above table), make sure that you file an application for this exemption together with your application for the exeat plus the respective proof certificates (e.g. notification of enlistment, record of prenatal/natal care etc.).
Refunds of parts of the semester fee
- If you are not on an official exeat semester, you have to pay in the complete semester fee to officially re-register. In case you do not need your ticket for the public transportation system in Berlin, because you are on an obligatory internship abroad or on an obligatory abroad semester (e.g. Finland semester in the study programme ConREM) that are obligatory parts of your study programme, you may consider applying for a refund of the semester ticket amount. You can only receive this refund if you first paid in the full amount and are officially re-registered for the upcoming term. After having done that you can file an application for the refund of your semester ticket fee directly at the semester ticket office. The refund will be carried out in return for your semester ticket.
Students in their final semester
- Students that will complete their study programme in the up-coming term have an additional option (not applicable to students of Public Management): In case they already submitted their bachelor/master thesis in this current semester, and only have to do their colloquium (final oral examination) in the up-coming term, they can choose not to re-register for the up-coming term and this way save the complete semester fee amount. In this case, they will not receive a new students ID card (which also means: no semester ticket) for the up-coming term and will be officially exmatriculated at the beginning of the up-coming term, but their right to do the colloquium will remain unaffected. With this exmatriculation they will lose their official student status and are required to announce this fact without delay to their health insurance company/fund, employer, family benefits office, labour office or any other offiical authorities.
- If they do not want to make use of this option and instead still pay in the complete semester fee for the upcoming term, they will be re-registered for the up-coming term, keep their official student status and receive a new students ID card and semester ticket at the beginning of the up-coming term.
