Collaborative Possibilities

-

What can a university of applied science do, what are its limits?

Unlike engineering or consulting firms, universities of applied science do not do short-term product or system development, nor conduct short-term research or studies upon request. They are institutions of higher learning that carry out applied research in addition to teaching. It is within this scope that they maintain collaborative efforts with external partners, i.e. SMEs, large-scale enterprises, public institutions, administrations and associations.

What kinds of collaborative possibilities exist?

The term “collaboration” stands for a manifold spectrum of possibilities for cooperation. This might imply the following methods or instruments:
  • Applied research projects
  • Advanced training classes with or without certification
  • Holding conferences, symposiums or workshops on up-to-date topics
  • Supporting company-specific final thesis projects and internships
  • HR transfer/procurement of graduates (to a limited extent)

How are collaborative projects carried out?

As soon as the prerequisites are established, the project can begin according to the work schedule and time plan. The project supervisor is normally a professor at the HTW. Research associates, lab engineers and students can participate in the project. After successful completion, project results can be applied or implemented in line with the previously specified plan, or after consultation with the partners.
