Auditing Students

Students who are enrolled at other German universities and wish to participate in individual courses held at the HTW may be admitted to the HTW as auditing students upon their prior application. No fees are charged for them.

The application for admission as auditing student is done in the following steps:
  1. Download and fill in the application form: Application for admission as auditing student [PDF, 45 KB]
  2. Obtain the confirmation from the Office of Admissions and Enrolment that there is capacity of free study places in the desired course(s) of the study programme (not necessary for language courses). This, however, does not lead to your immediate admission. Before your final admission can be effec-ted, you have to fulfil step (2) as described hereunder.
  3. Obtain the consent from the teacher of the desired course, who will give it after consultation with the department to which the study programme in question belongs.
  4. Return to the Office of Admissions and Enrolment to get your final admission.

Please note that admissions as auditing students to master programmes at HTW Berlin will be made only upon proof of the completion of a first academic degree or proof of your current enrolment in a master degree programme at another German university with respective documents. Please attach these proofs as annex to this application form.

General Information

  • Guest and auditing students may only visit courses that are not full. The Office of Admissions and Enrolment must confirm in advance if there are free capacities in the desired study programme for the chosen course.
After this is confirmed, the course’s lecturer must personally consent to the guest student’s participation in the course and issue confirmation of his/her consent. Guest students must also pay the fees for the course(s).
Only then can they re-submit their application to the office of admissions and enrolment, which in turn confirms admission as a guest or auditing student.
  • Of course, guest students may only be admitted if the respective course is not already full with regular students of the study programme. This particularly holds for study programmes with restricted admission (numerus clausus).
  • Admission is granted for one semester at a time and may not exceed eight credit hours a week.
  • Principally speaking, guest and auditing students may complete coursework for a proficiency certificate subject to the usual conditions of that course. Guest or auditing students waive any legal claims to sit for examinations. If desired, the lecturer can issue a proficiency certificate.

  • If you enrol at the HTW at a later date, credit can be awarded for coursework completed as a guest or auditing student according to the regulations for the recognition of academic credentials. Only a maximum of eight credit hours a week will be accepted, however.
