Validation of Credentials

Evaluation on www.anabin.de

You can only apply at HTW Berlin, if your former education in your native country has been validated as equivalent to the German university entrance qualification (Abitur). This also applies to German citizens who obtained their university entrance qualification abroad!

To find out how your foreign education is evaluated in Germany, please refer to the public database of "Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen (ZAB)" (Central Federal Agency for Foreign Education) on www.anabin.de (This page is only available in German) (this page is only available in German language). There you will find a general evaluation of your credentials. If you checked www.anabin.de and found that your credentials are eligible for an application at a German university, you can submit your application during the general deadlines and application rules as set forth on our homepage at: how to apply.

Useful information can also be found here: www.inobis.de

Only in the exceptional case that your individual credentials and certificates are not listed in the anabin-database, you will have to contact the Berlin Senate Office for Education, Science and Research (“Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung”) who are responsible for the decision of whether or not your former education is the equivalent of a German university entrance qualification in the state of Berlin.

Pleae bear in mind that the evaluation of your credentials at the Berlin Senate Office will take up to three months. You should, therefore, contact them early enough so that you can still meet the HTW application deadlines, because the certificate from the Berlin Senate Office must be submitted together with your regular application documents (e.g. the copies of your school leaving certificates and university diploma/transcripts) within the general application deadlines.

If the evaluation of the Berlin Senate Office says that your previous education is not eligible to directly apply for a bachelor programme in Germany, you must sit for the “Feststellungsprüfung” (assessment test) before being allowed to apply for a bachelor programme in your desired field of study. You can apply for participation in the preparatory course (Studienkolleg) directly at HTW Berlin. Find more information at: Assessment Test/Preparatory Course
