Important Formalities Upon Arrival

Be sure to arrive in Germany in time for the start of the term in order to attend to all formalities required for your residency in Germany and enrolment at the university.
It is best to proceed in the following order:

1. Register with the "Bürgeramt" (administrative office for citizens)
   You must register within one week after moving to Berlin.
2. Open a bank account
   This will make all of your payment transactions easier.
3. Obtain proof of sufficient health insurance coverage
   You must have a German health insurance company or fund verify that your health insurance coverage is sufficient in Germany. Otherwise you are required to take out health insurance coverage with a German health insurance company or fund.
4. Apply for a residence permit
   To do so, you will need to bring your registration certificate from the administrative office for citizens (see above), as well as verification from your health insurance company or fund.
